The Growing Significance of Assisted Living!

After retirement, many needs arise and all these needs are not self-dependent rather need someone’s assistance. Among all these needs, assisted living is the most important. However, as far as possible people want to remain independent; by understanding this requirement of retired people, there are a few retirement homes that provide assisted living. The purpose of this assisted living is to fill the gap that has been made between independent living and nursing homes.

Of course, all those people who are living in assisted living homes are not capable to live all by themselves, but they also do not need regular care. The amenities offered in assisted living homes are – hygienic living, nutritious food, medications, dressing, housekeeping, and laundry.

In deed, it also provides all those facilities that are available in nursing home but it is not an alternative of nursing home. The difference is only of degree i.e. in nursing home the care and medication services are provided intensively, but in assisted living, these services are provided whenever the need arises. This is the reason that many senior and retired people prefer assisted living homes.

In the assisted living, the plans and facilities are regulated frequently; the purpose is to make it more convenient for the residents. However, there are some common facilities provided by the assisted living homes such as:
  • Personal care
  • Residential care
  • Couple living facilities
  • Community based retirement facilities
  • Sheltered housing
  • Security
  • Recreational facilities
Hence, assisted living homes are often considered as independent living residences along with requisite nursing home facility.  So, the residents can take advantage of the full range of services available in the assisted living homes. In addition, there is also provision that people may begin in the independent living residences, shift to assisted living as they need help with activities of daily living, and finally move to the nursing home when continuing care becomes essential.

Likewise, it fulfills both requirements i.e. independent living along with the nursing care; therefore, it is one of the most preferable options for the retired people; specially, for those people who initially want to live independently.
